Independent Development Fund (IDF) is a Ugandan non political, non-governmental, not-for-profit grant mechanism for supporting Civil Society Organizations

(CSOs ) in Uganda. It was set up to deliver a range of support services to Ugandan CSOs as a means of strengthening their capacities to effectively contribute to the country’s human and civil rights, good governance and poverty reduction efforts.
IDF is funded by a number of Development Partners, including; Embassy of Sweden/Sida, Royal Danish Embassy/DANIDA, DFID, Royal Netherlands Embassy and Government of Ireland/Irish Aid.

To become a sustainable model of excellence that contributes to the development of a creative and effective civil society that enables citizens to engage in the democratic process, and to uphold basic human rights for a better quality of life for all Ugandans.
Our Mission
To provide grants and associated grant management support to Ugandan Civil Society Organisations to promote a human rights approach in the development of a civil society and enabling all citizens to:
Access information and understand policies and laws impacting on their human and civil rights
Engage effectively with government through monitoring and open dialogue, on issues of Human rights and associated good governance, poverty reduction and local democracy initiatives.
Aim of IDF
IDF aims to give grants and grant management support to CSOs that will work to promote a human rights approach, support and facilitate citizens to access and understand laws and Government policies that impact on their human and civil rights
Objectives IDF supports applications for a wide variety of activities that will:
Promote human rights approach and to access and understand laws and government policies that will impact on their human and civil rights.
Enable civil society organizations (and the wider public) to engage effectively with the government on local and national issues of human rights and civil rights and associated good governance, poverty reduction and local democracy initiatives
